Being a musician, conductor and composer, Karl August started collecting instruments in the 1950`s. Over the last 70 years, the collection was enlarged with further instruments of great quality. Now, it is time for the instruments to find their way back again to great musicians.



Karl August was born near Warburg in 1924. After initial studies at the conservatory in Kassel, he went to the Detmold Academy of Music in 1949, where he studied violin and viola with Tibor Varga until 1953. He also deepened his compositional skills with Richard Rudolf Klein, Günther Bialas and Johannes Driesler. During his more than 40 years as founder and director of the collegium musicum Bocholt, the Israel van Meckenem Consort and a church choir, he wrote several commissioned compositions.
